“The course delivery is fun and engaging with Joanne as an inspiring teacher. It has been such a positive course and I have learned so much from understanding the challenges a deaf person experiences in communicating.” ~ Isobel Dorr RVN, Olive Tree Vets, Kent
This unique eight-week online course is for all veterinary staff and students interested in learning about Deafness and how to communicate effectively and empathetically with people who are Deaf or have hearing loss.
“At the end of it you feel able to welcome deaf clients into your practice and discuss their pet’s symptoms and any further investigations they need, all using BSL. There is a lot to learn, but the process is enjoyable due to Joanne who is a wonderful tutor. I would highly recommend this course to any veterinary professionals who would like to make their practice friendly and inclusive for deaf clients.” ~ Jen Campbell MRCVS, Heritage Vets, Midlothian
Covering a BSL vocabulary of greetings, introductions, consults, symptoms, examination, diagnostics, treatment and directions, as well as an introduction to Deaf awareness and Deaf culture, this course will allow you the confidence to welcome Deaf clients to your practice and provide inclusive, compassionate service at every stage.
“To be able to take this course is a fantastic opportunity for anyone, like me, who is nervous but excited to be able to help bridge the gap to deaf clients being more included in our day to day lives of offering help, support and care from the Veterinary world. This course is great fun with a brilliant teacher and I would highly recommend giving it a go.” ~ SJ Courage, Small Animal Coordinator, Hook Norton Vets, Oxfordshire
